Bullitt Community Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 11
Students Earn HTML Certification Meet the next generation of Web Designers. Students Zach Fust, Destiny Hall, Kyle Callahan, Alyssa Hampton, Brooke Constant and Peyton Brown completed a certification, earning a Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) in Introduction to Programming: Using HTML/CSS. According to Scott R Schweitzer, Information Technology/Computer Programming Instructor at Riverview Opportunity Center, this is an introductory Industry Certification for Software Engineers and is used to show an understanding of the basic coding abilities of the recipient.
“This Certification, along with others that the students can/will earn, gives the student a way to quickly prove to potential employers and Universities/colleges that they have the
skills represented.” Schweitzer noted that for employers, it can be used to differentiate between different applicants. “For Universities, the certification is often used to give credit for courses that would be repetitive,” he said adding that students are currently working on their second Programming Language, JavaScript, and will finish the course by learning the Swift programming Language (ios/mac), earning a Level 1 Certification from Apple in the process. Schweitzer explained that HTML (the Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are two of the core technologies for building Web pages.
“HTML provides the structure of the page, CSS the (visual and aural) layout, for a variety of devices,” he said. “Along with graphics and scripting, HTML and CSS are the basis of \ building Web pages and Web Applications.” Bullitt County Public Schools has over 13,000 students in grades preschool through 12. There are 25 school facilities, a certified staff of over 900 and a classified staff of over 800 working to make the district the leader in educational excellence.
