City of Russell Springs issued the following announcement.
Morehead State University’s Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) hosted the 13th annual Nearly Naked Mile on MSU’s campus last month.
In the mile-long charity benefit run and coat drive, nearly 100 runners participated in the event. Participants donated a coat or made a cash contribution to participate in the race. SAA collected 61 coat donations and over $300 in cash donations. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Rowan County Schools Family Resource and Youth Service Centers.
“We are proud to host this event annually and thrilled that the event has continued to grow over the last 13 years,” said Jessi Martin, SAA philanthropy chair. “Part of our organization’s mission is to promote the importance of philanthropy to students. We are glad to be able to support the needs of the local school children through the event donations.”
The Nearly Naked Mile theme encourages runners to participate in the one mile run in minimal clothing. This theme reminds participants what it feels like to be a child without a coat during the winter.
